Introduction
The honeybee has been disappearing at an alarming rate and the recent decline in the honeybee population has become a major controversy in the scientific community. Since the honeybees are missing and dead bees have not been found in or near hives, there is no leading explanation of what happened to all the honeybees. While there is no clear-cut evidence over the cause of the disappearance of the honeybee, several theories have emerged from scientific communities. The two basic theories behind the disappearance of the honeybee are chemical causes and environmental causes.
The following articles will debate whether the disappearance of the honeybee can be attributed to chemical or environmental forces. Two of the articles will talk about the various chemicals, mainly how pesticide could affect honeybee populations. The other two articles will discuss the various environmental factors including climate change, diseases, and parasites, which could affect the declining honeybee populations. All of the articles will discuss how environment or chemical causes fit into the theory of Colony Collapse Disorder. Additionally, all of the articles will discuss the implications on the farming industry if honeybees were to become extinct. While the honeybee may seem like any other insect, the honeybee is extremely susceptible to outside influences. These articles will debate which cause effects the decline in the honeybee population the most.
